Now I am sitting in my home office in San Diego writing this blog but a week ago I was fortunate to get to shoot a destination wedding in the lush redwoods of Mendocino, California. I was asked to try something new this time. Sascha asked me to tone her wedding with a Hipstomatic or vintage look to compliment the vintage theme of her beautifully stylized wedding. It is very un-Vérité of me, where I usually stay truer to my photojournalism roots, but I think it was suited perfectly for this wedding. I hope these photos demonstrate the feel of this unique, customized affair. Can you hear the Neil Young and Grateful Dead blasting from behind the pictures? The amount of detail that was necessary to create the awesome atmosphere boggles my mind! Even the the bride’s dress was from 1910! They had no formal wedding party but did have flower girls and ring-bearers who wore the rings in specially made leather pouches by her good friends at Heyoka Leather around their necks. Danny and Sascha spoke their vows to each other with such sweet sincerity it brought tears to my eyes. I definitely wished I could have put down my camera and just joined the party – but I’m pretty excited to have made these photos as well! I will just let the photos tell the story. Enjoy!
