• vé·ri·té (french): truth

Our name is inspired by Cinema Vérité, the genre of filmmaking characterized by realistic, typically documentary motion pictures that avoid artificiality and artistic effect and are generally made with simple equipment so as to convey candid realism emphasizing realism and naturalism.

We are Justin Runquist and Kristy Walker, and we are photojournalists converted to wedding documentarians and contemporary portrait photographers. Our goal is to heed our name and show the wedding day as a story that conveys the true emotions and unique aspects of each wedding.

Sajani and Vishal…for a good cause.

This summer I had the honor of participating in an auction benefiting the Red Cross.  Teaming up with Chon, the very talented designer behind designwithchon.com, we offered the winning bidders Sajani and Vishal an engagement session and “save the date” cards.

Thank you to Chon for spearheading such a fantastic fundraising effort.  And thank you to Sajani and Vishal for participating in the auction, and for making an October evening in Chicago look warm.

Katie and Kalen – Naples Florida

Katie and Kalen traded fallen leaves in Chicago for the tropical palms of Naples Florida for their October destination wedding.  The weekend kicked off with a catamaran tour of Naples Florida, followed by a poolside welcome reception.  The following day, Katie and Kalen were married on the lawn at the beautiful LaPlaya resort.  The party continued with some amazing dance moves demonstrated by many, including Kalen demonstrating his air jumprope skills.

Congratulations Katie and Kalen!

Emily & Alex / San Juan Capistrano

I was fortunate enough to have been asked to shoot with Nate Goins Photography recently for Emily and Alex’s wedding in San Juan Capistrano. I say fortunate because it was one of those weddings where everything just came together for the portrait sessions. The lighting and locations gods were on our side and I am so excited to share the variety of portraits I captured. Oh, and besides killer photos, Emily had on a killer dress! Thanks to Emily and Alex, too, for being so fun to work for!

…and just had to include this one below of Nate Goins hard at work!

Carlo & Libby / Levyland in Carlsbad, CA

I’ve been doing a little shooting as a second shooter for some other awesome photographers lately. This time I was shooting for and with Patty Brutlag of Petula Pea Photography. I still get just as into the wedding and the couple as if they were my own clients and I wanted to share some images that I am excited to have captured that day. Thanks!

Emma and Roque / Temecula Creek Inn

This is a post that contains a lot of trees! I know, I know, I posted way too many tree photos but the location for Emma and Roque’s beautiful and intimate wedding was at the Temecula Creek Inn and what made the setting so picturesque were the darn trees! Actually, they both are nature lovers, so it works. They are golf lovers, too, and wanted to incorporated their love for the game into some fun portraits. The wedding was a very small group with just their closest family and friends as they were to continue the event in the bride’s home state of Maine the following week. Emma even brought a touch of her East Coast roots with a little Bocce Ball action. But what gets me every time I look through photos of these two (I already know they are best friends and so in love and perfect, etc.) is Emma’s eyes! Seriously, look at those things. I want to say a bunch of cheesy things like “peepers” and “under their spell” but I’ll spare you and just say  ”Thank you”  to Emma and Roque for inviting me to document your private and very important day. Well done!
